Dublin is a small city with an enormous personality — literary, musical, and never short of conversation. The pubs are the beating heart, and "the craic" (good fun and talk) is the local currency.
- Trinity College & the Book of Kells — the 9th-century illuminated gospels, and above them the breathtaking Long Room library. Book a slot; it's popular for good reason.
- The Guinness Storehouse — seven floors on the black stuff, ending with a pint in the Gravity Bar and a 360° view of the city. Touristy, tasty, worth it.
- Temple Bar — once — cobbled, colourful and full of live music. Have one pint and soak it up, then go find where the locals actually drink (Kehoe's, The Long Hall).
- Kilmainham Gaol — the prison at the centre of Ireland's fight for independence. A powerful, moving tour that explains the whole country.
- The cliff walk to Howth — a short DART train ride out, then a coastal path with sea air, gorse and a seafood lunch at the harbour. Dublin's best day out.
Dublin runs on chat — every pub and shop is a conversation waiting to happen. Practise your English with a native speaker below and you'll keep up with the fastest talkers in Europe.
